At New Years I set myself the resolution of trying to read 25 books before the end of the year. I wanted to set myself this challenge because reading has always been something that I love and I have recently lost touch with it because of just either being too busy or too lazy and choosing Netflix over my lovely books. So I know that for some people this is not a challenge but for me it is.
Its been a month and a few weeks and I have so far read two books and am halfway through a third. So I am already a little bit behind schedule but I’m trying! The first two I have read are The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and Dream a Little Dream by Giovanna Fletcher, and I am currently reading All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I loved the first two and am also really enjoying the other one.
Perks of Being a Wallflower was a lot darker than I thought it was going to be. It faced some really hard hitting stuff but I loved the way that the rest of the story was woven around Charlie’s life. It really portrayed the main idea of him being this wallflower, watching from the side and not really participating but making a huge impact on everyone else’s lives without realising it. I felt that it was a beautiful message to anyone who feels that they are not important, saying that they have more of an impact on peoples lives than they think and that just because you don’t participate doesn’t mean you aren’t loved.
Reading Dream a Little Dream was like being on a beach somewhere, just laying around and relaxing. I say this because it is the kind of thing that I usually take on holiday, just a lovely easy read. Fletcher’s story is charming as well as being completely frustrating at times, finishing with the happy ending you would expect.
I am not very far through All The Bright Places so I can’t really pass my judgment on it yet, however I will say, so far so good! I do have a list of books that I would like to read next, which I will post below, but I haven’t completed the full 25 list because I like to be inspired by other blogs or Instagram accounts on what to read. Or I just like to go through book shops and see what jumps out at me. For these reasons I have only got a few definite reads down.
If there are any books that you think I should add to my list please let me know! I love hearing book recommendations and finding out what the must-read books are. Also linked below are my favourite Instagram Book accounts that always inspire me to read and show me what books I should read next. I envy all of their pictures, so go and check them out.
