Book Talk: Sleepless in Manhattan

I hadn’t ever come across Sarah Morgan or read any of her books, but this one stood out to me on the shelf. Like the last book I read, I got through Sleepless in Manhattan in a matter of days! I’ve really been cracking on with my reading since I’ve been home and have had some time to myself. This book fitted nicely into my favourite chick-lit, girly theme, that I can’t help but love.IMG_0812I loved this book. I know I say that in pretty much all of my reviews, and you probably guessed as much, but as I did with all the others, I fell in love. To be truthful, it did take me a little while to get into it, and at the start I found the characters really predictable and annoying and I wasn’t a fan of the writing in general. But that’s just me being a reading snob and reading it like I’m on my degree course. Doing a Creative Writing degree can really spoil reading for you; when you spend the whole time wanting to go over everything in red pen.

I did manage to cast my editing head aside and was swept up into Paige’s life. I mean, most books of this genre are predictable love stories, but I like predictable. I like boy-meets-girl, fall in love kind of stories, and this one was ticked those boxes. I was soon rooting for the characters in their careers and love lives. Even though this was a love story, it wasn’t the main focus of the book. All the relationship stuff was intertwined into the lives of the three girls, and their ambitions to create their own events company.

For me, the best part about it was the setting. I love any book that is set against the backdrop of New York, as I want to visit it one day. The imagery was beautiful and transported me right into the thrum of the city. I couldn’t help but wish that I could sit with the characters, on top of their gorgeous Brooklyn roof garden. It just sounded so perfect.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the rest in the series, which I think should be coming out pretty soon!!
